Frequently Asked Questions
Bee Badger Book Club is a monthly subscription club with pre-loved books for kids. Each month Bee Badger sends your child two books which are yours to keep. Our books are curated with your child in mind and are an exciting way to foster the love of reading and sustainability.
We're proud to include only pre-loved books. This can include vintage books from the 1970s up to modern books on New York Times bestseller lists. Some of these books might be valuble collector's books, books you would pick-up at multi-chain bookstore or classics that you remember from your childhood. As a Canadian brand, we have a lot of great Canadian books as well! We do not include any books with religious/holiday themes.
Monthly book club packages are sent on the 5th of each month. To make sure we have enough time to prepare a new membership, we have set a cut-off window on the last day of the previous month. For example, if you'd like to be included in our October book shipment sent on October 5th, membership would need to be activated before September 30th.
Unfortunately, at this time we do not offer returns. We value all feedback so please Contact Us with details so we can make sure to keep in mind for your next shipment. We keep track of all books sent to our members so you'll never receive a repeat book and we can keep note of any feedback we receive from you.
While part of the excitement and adventure of pre-loved books is the life they lived before us and the families whose story time they shaped, we strive to ensure only books that have many years left to give are included. The condition of our books varies from good to excellent.
All of our books are picture books and most commonly rated by the publishers for ages 3-8 years old.
This is one of the most fun parts of our job! We source books from all over - vintage shops, charity stores, garage sales, antiques malls. We read through every single book we buy to make sure they're suitable for our little readers. About 20% of the books we buy don't make the cut to our book club and these books are donated to a local charity who repurposes the books as educational materials.
While data for Canada is difficult to find, 30-40% of books produced in the United States in 2009 were returned unsold from bookstores to the publisher. From that, 65-95% of those returns were pulped, using precious resources to be returned into the slurry from where they came.
In addition to the waste created from pulping unsold books - over 320 million books, totaling 640,000 tons are sent to landfill each year in North America alone.
By buying secondhand, you are saving books from landfill, reducing your carbon footprint by buying from existing resources, and cutting down the use of paper and the chemicals and energy used to produce a new book.

In addition, we use sustainable measures in all parts of our shipping, including recyclable mailers and selecting shipping providers that have offset carbon shipping.
